What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is an incredibly powerful way of helping you to unlock your potential for change.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring, relaxing and safe state. Put very simply, hypnosis is your focussed attention.

You’ve already entered hypnosis many times without realising it. For example, if you arrive at your destination without being able to remember sections of the journey, you were in a hypnotic trance. If something had happened on the journey that meant your attention was required, you would have instantly been fully aware of what was going on around you.

When you’re in a trance, you will be in total control. You won’t do anything that you don’t want to do and you won’t say anything that you don’t want to say.

What’s the difference between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is the process of going into and remaining in a trance. A hypnotist will be able to help you to relax, which is in itself a wonderful experience.  Hypnotherapy works with hypnosis at a deeper level, allowing us to work together using a wide range of therapeutic approaches. My training in psychotherapy enables me to work at these deeper levels of understanding.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful way to help with many types of issues and conditions.

There are many questions that people have about hypnotherapy. I have answered some of those questions here for you.

What if I can’t be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring, relaxing and safe state. It is also a skill that can be learnt and enhanced. This means that every time you enter a hypnotic trance, you will find it easier to do again the next time.

Some people spend their first few hypnotherapy sessions wondering if they are ‘doing it correctly’. Their inner voice will constantly be checking in with what’s going on. This is perfectly normal. I was exactly the same when I first started on my hypnotherapy journey. Everyone is nervous or excited about going into hypnosis the first time. This will pass and you will learn to relax and let go.

I will be there to guide you through our hypnotherapy sessions to ensure that you are safe and supported. After each session of hypnotherapy, we can discuss how you felt and what you experienced. This helps me to customise my approach to your hypnotherapy for future sessions.

Will I be in control?

You are always in control during a trance, no matter how deep into the trace that you go. You will not do or say anything that you do not want to.

I work within the ethical frameworks of UKCP, NSTT and CNHC, meaning that I always work with your best interests at the heart.

How is hypnotherapy conducted online?

Conducting hypnotherapy online is no different than in person and is perfectly safe.

I use Zoom, Teams or Vsee for online therapy sessions.

You’ll need a camera and a microphone to get started. It’s also worth ensuring that you have a private, quiet space in which to conduct the session uninterrupted.

There are a few considerations that we will talk through before we start, but these are very simple and easy to follow.
